Artist Statement:

I earned an MFA in painting in 1993, and since that time my studio practice has been driven by a single ambition, to build a large, coherent body of work guided by a consistent visual and conceptual vision. For more than thirty years I worked outside of major art centers. I now maintain a studio near Los Angeles and am seeking an ongoing partnership with a galley committed to long-term representation.

From the beginning, my primary form of amusement has been making art. As a child, I invented drawing games-filling sheets of paper with pencil marks as if they were tennis shots, accumulating hours of drawing without the need for imagery. With no image then less trouble from the teacher. Other games involved turning shapes into volumes: circles became spheres, rectangles became steps, houses, or boxes. At home, I made plasticine heads and performed mock brain surgeries on them. These early games established a lifelong fascination with drawing, structure, and invention.
